Brunch @ District 10, The Star Vista

Eggs Florentine

When it comes to brunch places, I do believe most of us are looking for a nice establishment tucked away in a quiet corner of the street or a shopping mall and serve some tasty nosh.  West-Siders rejoice, because there is another place that serves pretty decent brunch – District 10 @ Star Vista.

In my honest opinion, I didn’t understand the whole open-air-no-air-conditioning-except-inside-stores kinda concept that’s going on there.  It is rather unfriendly in this humid, tropical weather.  I had to pop in random shops and pretended I was looking for something, but in fact I was just abusing the air-conditioning they have inside.  But then I digressed.

So District 10 offers brunch menu that comes with a local twist, or rather some of the items in the menu have that twist.

Soft Shell Chilli Crab Pizza

I quite liked the Soft Shell Chilli Crab Pizza.  It was tasty although I felt the pizza was slightly limp and too wet in the centre, but all is well.  The pizza sauce was sweet and slightly spicy. The pizza has generous bits of crab meat sprinkled all over.  To top it off, rockets and crab fritters are littered all over.  Quite worth the try, this pizza.  You can also order the Sambal Prawns Pizza, which I think was equally good. Usher in the Year of the Snake with a Prosperity Buffet Feast at Plaza Brasserie, PARKROYAL on Beach Road.  If you want to steer away from the run of the mills Chinese Restaurant dinners, Plaza Brasserie offers many CNY dishes for the Lunar New Year spread.

Chef Jackson gave the traditional Yu Sheng a fruity twist by adding in fresh tropical fruits like Peaches, Dried Persimmons, Mango, Papaya, Rose Apples and Mandarin Oranges.  Tossed with a Special Fruit Flavored Sauce, eating this will get you a step closer to a fruitful year (ok…that was corny).

For the Lunar New Year Spread, look forward to unique and delicious dishes like the Eight treasure Boneless Duck, Braised Pork Knuckle with Dried Oyster and Black Moss, Szechuan Chicken and many more.  Do try the Szechuan Chicken, it was something I really enjoyed that night from the Lunar New Year spread.  Chunks of tender chicken meat, stirred fried

This time at Plaza Brasserie, you can order freshly steamed Red Garoupa Fish in Superior Stock from the Chef’s Live Station apart from the ever-so-tasty Chinese Roast.

And of course, my favourite Pen Cai.  Since this is a buffet, I definitely got my fill of it from the Live Station too.  Plaza Brasserie served a lighter flavoured one, but nonetheless, the luxurious ingredients like Abalone and Sea Cucumber were still pretty awesome.

For Lunar New Year, Plaza Brasserie also created a special Durian Nian Gao with Bak Kua.  It is a very interesting combinations of flavours from the Durian, the mellow sweetness of the Nian Gao and the savoury sweetness from the Bak Kwa.
