Christmas Special – Christmas @ Grand Park Orchard

For all you people still hunting for Christmas lunch/dinner venue, here is another recommendation for you.

Grand Park Orchard’s Open House is having a specialty Christmas buffet with a slight Oriental twist.

Unlike other buffet lines, Open House stresses on quality and not quantity.  And lets be honest here, if there is a buffet of 100+ selections, how many dishes can one plow through without bursting their pants?

Open House offers a made-to-order a la carte buffet menu and also the traditional eat-all-you-can style.  Keep a look out for the pizza station as the pizzas are made fresh from rolling of the dough to baking it in the gas oven.

During the festive season, Open House features a selection of Christmas specialty and here is a preview of some of the items.


Grilled Chicken with Rum and Raisin sauce

Australian Rack of Lamb with Dried Fruits and Nuts Crust
Roasted tender lamb with a sweet nutty crust.  The chutney at the side gave a tart edge to the meat.

I liked this but at the same time I didn’t like it as well.  I like the idea that’s put into executing this, liked the idea that the chef gave a very traditional western dish an oriental rendition.  But I didn’t like it because it was too damn salty.  This was made known to the marketing folks and I hope they made some changes to the recipe.  Other than that, it was pretty intelligent of the chef to do it this way.


As the head chef hails from China, the dim sums, Chinese dishes and Roast pork was very tasty.


Claypot Rice with Chinese Sausage
I was delighted at the quality of this claypot rice.  There were bits of waxed duck mixed in and when that cooks together with the rice, it yields a very fragrant fluffy rice that’s just nicely seasoned.  Must have if you are there.

Other than all these, the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day selection features other items like Roasted Turkey with Chestnut Stuffing, Honey Gammon Ham with Apple Sauce & Caramelised Peach, Roasted US Pork Loin with Apricot Stuffing, Roasted Strip Loin Beef Crusted with Black Pepper and many more.

Christmas Eve Dinner (6.30pm – 10.30pm) is going at S$68++ for Adults and S$34++ for kids.  For fellow alcos like me ,a top up of S$28++ to enjoy free flow of Mumm Champagne, Wines and Beers; definitely to keep your Christmas Spirits high.

On Christmas Day, Lunch (12pm – 2.30pm) is going at S$52++ for Adults and S$26++ for kids, Dinner (6.30pm – 10.30pm) will be at S$55++ for Adults and S$28++ for kids.  You too can top up S$28++ to get wasted on Mumm bubblies, wines and beers, just because its Christmas.
